In John 15, verses 18 & 19, Jesus warned His followers the world hates them for they do not belong to its systems. If you feel confused or distant from what is happening all around you that is quite common for a surrendered Christ follower.
1 John 5:19: Declares that the "whole world lies under the power of the evil one," highlighting its separation from God. As followers we are set apart from this world for we are spiritual beings just passing through until we arrive in heaven. That is why the world can feel more like a wilderness where being lost, at risk, or vulnerable should be a common response to those who follow Jesus. That is why His command to not fall in love with the world so that He is King in your life protects you.
So how do we live out our faith, we navigate as if we are in a wilderness and rely upon navigation resources found in Jesus. His written Word is our map to navigate all of the pitfalls in the terrain. The 2nd resources is the Spirit placed within born-again believers. His voice guides us and protects us from the dangers of doing life on the world's terms.
Finally, being in a faith family keeps us from being isolated in a land where predators seek the weak and lonely. Jesus created the church to help us do life under Him and with each other so that we can protect, serve one another, as well as encouraging each other as times seem dark.
It is possible to navigate this world and have victory, but only by what Jesus said we should obey. It doesn't mean we will never suffer or feel uncomfortable but it does mean He is with us always and gives us His precious gifts to do life well.
